AI Agents at Work: Why the Process Question Matters Now

AI agents are often framed as the next big automation breakthrough. Beyond the headlines, however, a more practical reality is emerging: progress does not start with the demo, but with the process. Before an agent can add value, companies need to understand exactly where structured automation makes sense and where human judgment must remain in control.

That is the central message in daenet’s latest take on the subject. Instead of presenting AI agents as an abstract promise, the post focuses on operational detail. When a customer inquiry arrives, information must be collected, responsibilities clarified and follow-up actions prepared. An agent can only support that workflow reliably if its limits are explicit: Which data may it use? Which steps may it execute on its own? At what point does a human need to review or decide?

This is not a minor technical concern. It is a question of governance, resilience and accountability. A workflow may look impressive in a controlled demo, but it quickly falls apart if exceptions, contradictions or missing data are not handled properly. That is why process design remains the real test of any serious agent implementation.

The conclusion is refreshingly concrete: companies should not start with hype, but with friction in their daily operations. That is where AI agents either prove their value or reveal their limits.
